Swedish Massage
Swedish massage is one of the most popular and widely practiced massage techniques. It uses long, flowing strokes, kneading, and gentle pressure to promote relaxation, improve circulation, and relieve muscle tension and furthermore, aid in the post-injury phase.. This soothing full-body massage is designed to enhance overall well-being and reduce stress.
There are four types of strokes associated with Swedish massage; Effleurage, Friction, Petrissage and Tapotement. An Effleurage movement is normally repeated many times over the same area on the body. This induces relaxation, stimulating the nerves and blood supply to the tissues worked. Frictions are a small variety of techniques where there is the use of the fingers or thumbs.
They are precise movements focused on a very small section of the body. Petrissage movements include kneading, wrinkling, lifting and rolling. It’s where soft tissues are compressed against each other or against the bones. Tapotement movements may be applied to the fleshy parts of the body. This movement requires rapid movements from the wrists in which, the body is hit softly by each hand one by one.
